Extra opportunities

Kurmond Public School has a high focus on the development of Literacy and Numeracy skills for all students but also recognises the importance of developing skills in leadership, creativity, expression and physical activities.

We offer an extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities for our students. Each year students are able to be involved in dance groups and choir, performing at various festivals within our community. We have teachers available at the school to offer music tuition, a rock band, a percussion group, keyboard and guitar lessons and vocal instruction.

Our students are encouraged to develop skills in public speaking and debating, competing in local competitions and events. For those seeking sporting opportunities, we develop and train teams for several gala days each year across a range of sports, we promote and encourage students to try out for representative sporting teams and offer competition in our annual swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals, leading on to representative levels.

From an early age our students are given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through our Student Representative Council, where members become the voice for their class at regular meetings. They can also become library monitors, house captains and school captains. All Stage 3 students are trained to lead  the remainder of the school in Peer Support groups and our Peer Buddy program for kindergarten students.
