About our school

Welcome to Kurmond Public School, a small country school located in the semi-rural area of the Hawkesbury Valley at the base of the Blue Mountains.

Through this website, we aim to showcase our wonderful school to you and keep our local community informed of the celebrations and achievements of our students. We also aim to provide you with as much support as possible regarding school systems and policies as well as links to assist you in the education partnership for your children.

Kurmond Public School is a school of high expectations and a member of the Colo Learning Community. The majority of our students attend Colo High School, at the conclusion of Year 6. We utilise innovative teaching and learning programs, a dedicated and experienced staff and a wealth of modern and relevant teaching resources.

We incorporate a highly effective Student Wellbeing Program where all students are valued and included. Through our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL), students are taught the values of safety, courtesy and responsibility and understand that it is only through effort that lifelong achievement is maintained. The school takes a firm stand against bullying, racism and exclusion and is proactive in its preventative strategies and systems.

The integration of the latest technology is a continual focus, with all rooms being equipped with interactive whiteboards, computers, cabled and wireless internet and access to mobile tablet technology. The library is well-stocked with current literature and reference material that can be accessed and borrowed by all students.

Staff are very committed at Kurmond Public School to delivering effective, research-based programs for Literacy and Numeracy. The school follows current NSW syllabus documents with engaging units of work in all stages. The school prides itself on its academic achievement and staff are constantly sourcing opportunities for their own professional learning.

Kurmond Public School students and staff are further supported by an effective Learning and Support Team that offers very successful programs of remediation such as Reading Recovery, small group interventions, targeted individual programs and teacher support to improve the educational outcomes for students.

Our extensive extracurricular and enrichment programs include dance groups, choir, band, percussion group, public speaking and debating. We are also involved each year in the Hawkesbury Creative Arts Enrichment program. A large variety of sporting opportunities are also available to our students.

Students are able to represent the school in swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals through to state and national levels and participate in teams for local NSW PSSA competitions. Students of all ages are also encouraged to develop their leadership skills through the Student Representative Council and Student Leadership positions.

Kurmond Public School is a very friendly and welcoming school where all students are accepted and included, regardless of race, gender, disability or religion. Our programs offer a strong multicultural focus and acknowledge our aboriginal heritage and culture. We work in close partnership with the parent community and the parents and citizens  (P&C) association.

We recognise that highly effective learning is a direct result of strong partnerships between the school and home and parents are encouraged to be involved and informed about their child’s learning journey. To further support families, Kurmond Public School has direct access to Kurrajong Out Of School Care (OOSH), providing before and after school care with bus transport.

We would very much like to meet with you to share more of the wonderful experiences available at Kurmond Public School. Please give us a call and make an appointment to speak with the Principal or school staff about how we can serve you in the education of your children.
